Today’s message marks the third and final installment of our interview series with First Trust Portfolios’ chief economist Brian Wesbury. In particular, our conversation focused on the price and direction of oil as an investment commodity.

If you missed the earlier installments in this series, you can find part one here and part two here

The fracking boom in Texas has had a global impact, given that the United States is now not only buying oil from other countries at cheaper rates, but is also exporting more oil than in the recent past.  This increase in demand for U.S. oil has boosted prices, which will likely stay high for some time.

America’s energy sector will see significant
growth in the next five to 10 years.

Moving forward into the next several decades, Brian believes that oil will continue to be worth between $55 and $65 a barrel. He also thinks that the energy sector is “great to be in” and will see significant growth in the next five to 10 years.
