What you should consider when deciding when to collect Social Security.

Today, let's briefly discuss Social Security, a topic that I get questions about all the time. In fact,I recently hosted a webinar delving into the intricacies of Social Security, focusing on a common question: When is the optimal time to start receiving Social Security benefits?

Deciding the right moment to claim Social Security is a highly individual decision. Many experts advise waiting until reaching full-benefit age, emphasizing patience. This advice makes sense if you’re only concerned about your Social Security benefits; however, it doesn’t take your whole financial picture into consideration.

“You have to consider your financial situation prior to taking benefits.”

If you retire before reaching full-benefit age, you will need to have a plan for an income to meet your needs while you wait. And if you opt to delay Social Security, you'll need an alternative income source, which could mean depleting an IRA, utilizing a pension, drawing from an after-tax account or other means.

The key takeaway is that the decision isn't one-size-fits-all. Before you plan on retiring, it's essential to conduct a thorough analysis to find the approach that fits your unique financial circumstances.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding your Social Security strategy, please don't hesitate to call or email me. I’m here to assist you in navigating this important aspect of your retirement planning.
